Bellydance Classes in Traditional and Fusion Middle Eastern Dance Styles
General class info
Run time
Classes are blocked for 1 hr and 15 mins, providing time for warm up, cool down, and any general business/discussion while still have sufficient time to focus on the choreo/technique.
Classes generally run according to school terms, as reflected in the Term pricing. Expect there to be some flexibility in Ignite and Raqs Shula classes as we complete the choreo at a pace that best suits the class.
Costs
The base price for classes is $20/hr (i.e. $25 for a 1 hr 15 min class), discounted if purchasing a term of classes, paid in full by the first lesson of each term. Please note that these are non-refundable and must be used within the set term. Term payments are not locked to one particular class, they can be used for any class offered in that term. If you miss a class during term, you are welcome to join any other class running that term to make it up.
Discounts are in place if you enrol and pre-pay for more than one class in the same term: 40% off your second class, and 60% off your third.
Online payments are coming soon; in the meantime, payment can be made by direct deposit/bank transfer (preferred; message Andriya for details at time of enrolment), or by cash or debit/credit card at the beginning of class.
What to bring/wear
Comfortable and flexible clothing that allow a good range of movement. Your teacher needs to see your movement; most active-wear options are great for this, as are loose pants and t-shirts.
You may choose to dance bare-foot, or with flexible, dance-appropriate footwear (e.g. dance sneakers, lyrical sandals or ‘dance-paws’). You may find regular sneakers are too grippy to dance in.
Hair down or up, wearing jewellery or not… it’s your choice, whatever works for you and doesn’t hinder your dancing.
If you have a favourite hip-scarf, definitely wear it. If not (I’m looking at you, beginners), fear not, there’ll be plenty available to borrow. Same goes for any props that are used for a particular choreo.
Oh, and don’t forget your water-bottle!
Performance opportunities
This is not compulsory. There are many reasons people join bellydance classes; some have absolutely no wish to perform, while for others the costuming and performance aspect is a major driving force. There are various opportunities throughout the year for those who wish to perform (see the events tab for some of these events), or just come along and enjoy the show as an audience member.
What about kids?
Belly dance is for everyone, no matter their age or gender. Still, we like to consider these classes a recreational and social retreat – an opportunity to step away from life’s busy moments, including little ones, and enjoy some time just for you. The space is designed for participants to focus entirely on their dancing and doesn’t have crèche facilities. We kindly ask that children stay home to ensure an uninterrupted experience for everyone, especially the fantastic mums (and dads!) who deserve this break. Thank you for your understanding.
If you’re interested in children’s belly dance classes, feel free to reach out and I’ll happily connect you with a highly recommended teacher.
Enrol via this link or message Andriya to receive your enrolment form and discuss your preferred payment option.
